| Overview
of Column Cleaner module: The Column Cleaner module within
WinPure Clean & Match 2010 is for quickly finding and correcting
discrepancies within your list/s. By simply choosing the incorrect
values from your list, then deciding on the new value, WinPure Clean
& Match will quickly and effectively correct all the values in
the required column.
For example: Lets
say you have a list of town names in your list. You notice that
there are three different spellings for the town 'Bracknell', of
which only one of them is correct. This module will allow you to
change the incorrect values into the correct value within seconds.
All what is required is to select the incorrect values from the
list, then enter the new value, then simply click 'Convert'.
Lets use the example
above in this quick 6-step guide into using the Column Cleaner Module:
Step 1: After importing
your list, click the 'Clean' button, as shown below.
Step 2: Click the 'Column
Cleaner' Tab, as shown below:
Step 3: Select the column
name that you wish to modify. In this example we are using the 'Town'
field. Once selected, WinPure Clean & Match will then place
all the distinct values from this field into the ALL VALUES box,
together with a count for each value. If you look carefully, you
will notice that one of the towns ("Bracknell') has 3 different
spellings. Lets quickly correct this.
Step 4: By highlighting
the incorrect value and then clicking the [ > ], this will place
the value into the 'SELECTED VALUES' list - as shown below:
Step 5: Highligh the
correct value, and then click the [ > ] to place into the 'NEW
VALUE' box, as show below.
Step 6: Finally click
the 'Convert' button. This will then convert all the selected values
into the new value. As you can see below, the wrong spellings of
the town 'Bracknell' have all been converted to the correct value,
and the count is now showing 3.
This kind of example
can be applied for any column values (not just town names). Persons
names, addresses, telephone numbers. postcodes, email addresses,
etc could all benefit from using this great module to ensure your
list is accurate and professional looking.
